Text us back!
Seriously! We text you from a real-life phone number. We’ve given people lines to use on dates and in job interviews. We’ve given fantasy football advice and gone deeper on specific topics. Just ask us for anything. We’re your Wingman, after all.
Meet your wingmen
Every text you receive is written by either Joe Levin or Andrew Deutser. No ChatGPT here. Part of that’s because we really believe that sports are great because of their humanity, and we try to capture the joy, heartbreak, and insanity of following sports. Part of that’s also because, frankly, we spend too much time watching and obsessing over sports than to learn how to code our own version of Chatty.
Why should you trust us? Well, we think we’re pretty qualified for this job, if we do say so ourselves. Joe is an Emmy-Nominated sportswriter. He’s written for ESPN and Texas Monthly, made documentary series like In the Arena with Serena Williams and Believers with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and co-wrote a bestselling book called Religion of Sports.
Andrew played college hoops for the Texas Longhorns, so he brings some experience from inside the locker room. After hanging it up, he got a masters in sports management from Columbia University. That means that he found a way to get an Ivy League Masters…in sports. How’s that for a qualification?
FAQs
When will I receive my first texts?
You should have received a confirmation text after signing up, though it might take up to 5 minutes to send. If you never received a text, reach out to us at info@sportswingman.com and we’ll make sure to fix that.
What if I want to change what topics I subscribe to?
There’s two ways to change: either text us and let us know, or log in to your profile and select “Change Feeds” on your profile page. If you need more help, email us at info@sportswingman.com
I want you to cover something that isn’t listed on your options. Can you help?
We’re happy to figure something out. Reply to our texts, and we’ll talk.
Do these texts cost money?
For now, as we’re getting up-and-running, all things Wingman are free. But one day, we hope to offer subscriptions. More on that front soon! We should note: your standard messaging costs from your cellular carrier might apply. For other fine print, see our handy-dandy terms and conditions and privacy policy. #lawyers
Is that really just the two of you texting us?
Yes! We challenge you to ask a sports-related question that stumps us.
How did Wingman come about?
When Andrew’s sister first started dating Joe, she’d ask Andrew to send her lines to use to impress him. Stuff like: “I don’t understand why they aren’t blitzing more!” Or “Do you think it’s time for the Cubs to go to the bullpen?” Ashley would echo the lines, and Joe would turn to her and say, “That’s the hottest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.” Fast forward today…and let’s just say that Joe & Andrew are about to become brothers.
We’ve laughed about that story, and then found ourselves repeating that “service” for several other friends. Some needed help at work with a boss who was obsessed with the Chicago Bears. Some needed to impress boys. Some wanted to win a friend-group fantasy league. Some wanted to become bigger fans.
And eventually, we found ourselves in more sports group texts than we could count. So we decided: Should we make this a legit thing?
Now we’re here!
How do I unsubscribe?
Just reply “STOP” to our texts, and we’ll leave you alone. But we’ll never forget the memories.
